Armchair Activism
This week the Parks System is taking comments about whether they should charge for protests outside the White House. Apparently the security costs are starting to weigh on the administration. Please let the government know what you think about this. Some inspirational comment starters include:
“If you have to pay for free speech it’s not free”
The @NatlParkService is considering fees for demonstrations in D.C.. @ThePCJF is against the proposed plan, calling it an attack on free speech. WATCH: @WNCN @WFXRnews

“Managing public lands for the benefit of the American people is what Congress funds the National Park Service to do. That includes demonstrators just as much as tourists or hikers. While the park service may be strapped for funds, it cannot balance its budget on the backs of people seeking to exercise their constitutional rights.” –ACLU
You have until Monday to comment so please do!

Personal Lesson for the Week
I learned about myself and others this week when forced to consider my own privilege and how it affects others. I watched this video and it helped me to see what I DON’T SEE. Maybe it will help you, too.
Art
And in conjunction with my racist revelations, I want to celebrate the art of Kara Walker, one of my favorites. I saw this panel once in MoMa in New York and it blew me away. This is called
Gone: An Historical Romance of a Civil War as It Occurred b’tween the Dusky Thighs of One Young Negress and Her Heart
Kara Walker is amazing and if you have the chance to see her work, you should. She’s bold and inventive and she has so much to say.
Until next week! See you at the rally!!
